A group of pro-life Alaskans will meet with Gov. Mike Dunleavy on Tuesday, Dec. 3, to ask him to end all state reimbursements for abortions. Alaska Right to Life leaders plan to urge the governor to refuse to follow what it considers to be an unconstitutional order by the Alaska Supreme Court to pay for abortions through state-funded Medicaid.

Gov. Dunleavy is widely regarded as one of the most pro-life governors Alaska has ever had. Alaska Right to Life organized a petition drive that sent in thousands of cards from pro-life Alaskans requesting that he end the state practice of “paying for babies to be killed.” Last year the state paid for about 800 abortions through Medicaid.

The goal of the meeting is that Gov. Dunleavy will issue an executive order halting all public funds for abortions. The Alaska Watchman will publish a report on the meeting. Click here to learn more about the background behind the petition drive.
